Dyson Small Ball Allergy is a powerful corded upright vacuum cleaner, perfect for people with allergies

If you want to bring Dyson's famous cleaning ability into your home with the tightest budget, then Dyson Ball Allergy is your best choice.

Although you don’t have the wireless convenience of a Dyson stick vacuum cleaner, this power-powered upright vacuum cleaner has its own series of advantages, including a large-capacity collection box and a large electric floor vacuum that can handle larger vacuuming tasks. Head, and there are many attachments to reach difficult places.

In addition, the Small Ball Allergy is ideal for asthma and allergy sufferers, and its sealed structure is designed to capture tiny dust particles and trap them in the cleaner.

Dyson Small Ball Allergy costs 199 pounds, which is 50 pounds cheaper than any other Dyson floor cleaner, and even the oldest V7 series cordless vacuum cleaners start at 249 pounds. The only other Dyson you can find at the same price is the Dyson V7 Trigger (£199), but if you want to clean a house full of carpets and hard floors, it is a hand-held cleaner that is almost useless.

And don’t let the “little” in the name fool you. This is a vacuum cleaner with great weight and dimensions: it weighs 6.9 kg and measures 281 x 384 x 1,057 mm (WDH). However, it takes full advantage of its size and accommodates a spacious 1.6-liter collection box.

The cable is 9.4m long, so you can connect to multiple rooms from one socket. I found that after plugging the vacuum cleaner into the central floor wall socket, I can reach all the corners of the first floor of my four-bedroom house without having to unplug it. Dyson Small Ball Allergy also has a 4m long hose, which extends from the bottom of the device, enough to clean stairs and interior decoration.

The vacuum cleaner comes with four accessories: a stair tool; a similar but larger mattress tool; a soft dusting brush; and a multifunctional tool that combines a crevice tool and a smaller dusting brush. These can be connected directly to the hose or used in combination with extension rods for extra reach.

The ball on the base of this and other Dyson posts is a steerable multidirectional connection point between the floor head and the rest of the vacuum. This means that, unlike traditional columns that can only bend back and forth, the Small Ball Allergy can more easily turn to narrow places. It is a pleasure to use it on the floor like this. It is easy to control, rolls smoothly, and does a good job of collecting dust and debris.

However, I don't like the handheld element very much. If you don't untie all the power cords and remove the extension rod first, you won't be able to access the hose, which is a bit painful if you only have a small amount of work to do. Although there is enough reach on the hose, especially when you add a magic wand, it is very bulky and not as easy to use as a standalone handheld device or a vacuum cleaner lifted from a floor suction head, such as Shark DuoClean with Lift-away NV702UK (£199)

I tried it on my stairs, it went around a corner and then returned to myself, although the hose can almost reach the top step, and the vacuum cleaner is still at the bottom (which is good), I have been wrestling with the tube longing The accordion returns to the basic unit.

Just press a button and the collection box will be released from the main body of the vacuum cleaner, and then use the same button to empty it into your trash can. The mechanism used to achieve this does not seem particularly robust, but I did a good job trying to break it, and it seems to be strong enough.

Unlike Dyson's cordless vacuum cleaner, the suction power of this model is not controlled; it maintains full hair throughout the cleaning process. However, you can disable the rotating brush bar, which makes it gentler on delicate hard floors.

Another thing that the vacuum cleaner does not have is the hair tangling management system. When I finished testing the vacuum cleaner, there were a lot of long hair entangled around the roller brush. If you don’t like to comb your hair often, Shark is a leader in the field with its Anti Hair Wrap floor head, and Dyson has introduced a concept similar to Dyson V15 Detect (£599)

Dyson’s cordless canes tend to quickly complete a series of standard tests we conducted on Expert Reviews, so I’m wondering if the cheaper, corded Small Ball Allergy can also be tested.

On the low-pile carpet, the vacuum met my expectations. It collected 1 gram of my 50 grams of flour spill in one pass, and it was enough to comb out the last bit of dust in another pass. On this surface, it also performed well with Cheerios. In one pass, it collected all particles in 26 grams of spills except for one Cheerio, and one of the particles hit the rotating brush at an awkward angle and flew away. Of course, it's okay to catch up and pass the ball one after another.

On hard floors, it performed better with flour, removing all 50 grams at a time without leaving any visible residue. However, collecting oatmeal here is not very good.

Although there is enough friction on the carpet for the head to push the grains into the pile and roll over the top, on the hard floor it will only push most of the grains in front of it and can only collect 26 grams of spills. half. Even the subsequent pass did not really help, I had to switch to the hose to complete the job.

Comprehensive benchmark testing is one thing, but when using this cleaner regularly, it feels like it can easily clean the entire house without making a fuss. The floor head is large and easy to push around. When we use it normally, it doesn't seem to leave anything visible.

Although the Dyson Small Ball Allergy was beaten by the hard floor Cheerio test, I think it is still worth considering, especially if you want to perform Dyson-level cleaning on a relatively low budget.

You can’t enjoy the convenience of Dyson’s more expensive cordless vacuum cleaner, but you can indeed get a soft roller of the whole house cleaner for one third of the price of the V11 Outsize (£649), but if you want to cover a larger area Carpet, and don’t mind compromising on equipment with cables, then Small Ball Allergy is a good choice.

If you have a good combination of carpet and hard floor and don't mind the ropes, Shark Anti Hair Wrap (£179) with Flexology and TruePet HZ500UKT is another option, and the price is about the same as the Small Ball Allergy. Because it is a stick vacuum cleaner, it does not have the capacity of a Dyson trash can-you have to fold it up to make it stand on its own-but it is easier to manage in handheld mode, and its DuoClean floor suction head is better Remove larger particles from hard floors.
